WHAT IF THE TRANSFORMATION OF CITIES WAS MOTIVATED BY THEIR INHABITANTS? <\/h2>\n\t\t\t

Times change, cities change. It’s called a lifestyle shift, of which we are all taking part. But if everyone has different needs, how is urban life, the city and the neighbourhood changing to meet them all?<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

It seems like a complex and even somewhat personal issue, but if we think about the basis of what we all value, we realise we have a lot in common after all:<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

– we want a sustainable future; <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

– a higher quality of life; <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
– to be close to what we need; <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

– to have time to do what makes us happy; <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

– that the measures we take have a positive impact, such as protecting the environment by cycling (maybe even scootering) instead of driving.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Mobility and positive impact are therefore increasingly important concepts for inhabitants and define the new urban lifestyle.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Tomorrow’s communities are looking for greater proximity to make the most of every day. Thus, the decision on the future development of cities, and the respective infrastructures that integrate them, should be given back to these same communities. The city of proximity<\/strong><\/p>\n

The new urban lifestyle is directly related to the concept of the 15-Minute City, the city of proximity. This concept focuses on the way in which the different pillars of a citizen\u2019s life are related, in a relationship between mobility and accessibility, allowing us to rethink how people move around and define a new way of living, consuming, working and occupying the city. Space is reorganised to revitalize the city not only at a global level in targeted and segmented zones, but also at the neighbourhood level, with several micro zones at a smaller scale. It will make less and less sense, for example, to have areas of the city just for work, away from the “residential” areas that force the work-home commute. <\/p>\n

Sustentability<\/strong><\/p>\n

This sustainable transformation of cities is driving the development of mixed use incentives, through the creation of multifunctional spaces that can be used by everyone, since they bring together in the same place the services needed to respond to the different main pillars of citizens’ lives. The transformation of places is only relevant and sustainable if it allows for the proliferation of communities, connecting the spaces to their surroundings and context, thus returning the space to people. <\/p>\n

Vialia Vigo, a Train Station transformed into a Living Space<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Vialia Esta\u00e7\u00e3o de Vigo project is a case study of the adaptation of cities to this new urban lifestyle which combines all in the same space: 122.000 m\u00b2 high-speed railway station, 43.000 m\u00b2 shopping centre and a bus terminal. This urban regeneration project, promoted by Nhoodem Spain, aims to transform and revitalise the city of Vigo, making it a more modern and cosmopolitan city, changing the way people move around and experience the city. <\/p>\n

This kind of urban transformation encourages spaces that generate active communities, sustainable cities and a better world for us all. This is only achieved through working with partners, organisations and teams who share the same common vision and, above all, commitment to respecting the environment, people and the authenticity of places, for the prosperity of all.
